Tutankhamun's Childhood
In this
section I will be taking a look at Tutankhamun’s childhood and what he did
before he became Pharaoh, as his childhood does play a large role in many of
the death theories.
Tutankhamun, born as Tutankaten, was born in the year of 1342BC. After looking at the artefacts found in Tutankhamun’s tomb, archaeologists have been able to gain a good picture as to what Tutankhamun enjoyed when he was a child, these activities include: playing the ancient Egyptian equivalent of chess, practice his archery and learn new military tactics.
However, his choices where limited due to the club-foot he was born with. It is more than likely that this foot would have caused him create pain and we know he couldn’t walk well by himself due to all the walking sticks found in the tomb. But, this injury was not Tutankhamun’s fault, it was caused by both his parents…
From both historical and scientific research, it can now be confirmed that Tutankhamun’s parents were: the rebel pharaoh, Akhenaten, and a woman known as “The Younger Lady”. But after researchers dug deeper, they found something extraordinary: Tutankhamun’s parents were brother and sister, making them both his parents, and aunt and uncle. This means that Tutankhamun was a product of incest. Also, to make matters worse for Tutankhamun, he and his family had a series of visions which is now believed to be temporal-lobe-epilepsy, which left untreated, left Tutankhamun with a history of seizures.
To make matters even worse, Tutankhamun’s family were already experiencing political issues. At the time of Tutankhamun’s birth, his father was in the process of completely changing the country, he had: moved the capital to a new city called Armana, abandoned alliances with surrounding countries and banded the country’s most popular religion and introduced his new religion that everyone had to worship. All of this caused a strong hatred towards Tutankhamun and his family.
Akhenaten, Tutankhamun’s father, passed away when he was nine. This meant that Tutankhamun immediately inherited a country full of issues and hatred towards his family.
