His Successor/ What Happened After His Death
In the section, I am going to talk briefly what happened
after the death of Tutankhamun.
After the recent death of her beloved husband, Ankhesenamun was highly pressurised into remarrying. In the end, she ended up marrying Tutankhamun’s advisor and Egypt’s Prime Minister, Aye (who at this time was also her grandfather). Aye then only reigned for about 4-9 years and in this time made few changes, however, he did try to abolish the work and mess that Tutankhamun and his father had made.
Shortly after Aye’s death, General Horemheb became Pharaoh. Horemheb then set about purging the work of Aye and Akhenaten as they had only caused issues in Egypt. However, whilst he did claim a few of Tutankhamun’s statues and buildings, Horemheb was slightly kinder to Tutankhamun as he had made a deal with Horemheb, that he would succeed Tutankhamun (the only reason as to why this didn’t happen was due to Horemheb fighting wars in other countries) and Tutankhamun did try his best to try and restore the country to its former glory, but this did not stop Horemheb from removing Tutankhamun's name, along with Aye's and Akhenaten's, from the list of pharaohs ad usurping some of his monuments.
Overall, Tutankhamun did have a very successful reign as most of the public agreed with him, the only people that would not have liked his reign were his father’s friends, as he took away their power and returned it to the priests
